Things to Focus On

Open Look vs. Closed Look
Open Look in Your Primary: If you clearly see illegal contact in your area of responsibility, make the call.
Open Look Outside Your Primary: Be patient. Give your partner a chance to make the call before you step in.
Closed Look: If your view is blocked or you don’t clearly see the play, have the discipline to not blow the whistle.

Technical Foul Procedure
Calling official: Find your partner.
Inform your partner of the infraction.
Report the technical foul to the scorer’s table.
If the technical foul is on a player, the coach deserves an explanation.

Movement
Stop running to spots on the floor.
Players and the ball dictate our movement.
Do your work early.
Don’t let players walk in front of you.
If a player takes two steps toward you, take two steps away from him.

Game Awareness
Don’t be the third official on the floor wondering what’s going on.
Take initiative—go over and find out what’s going on.

Officials, please accept assignments as soon as you receive them. If you have an emergency that comes up or receive a higher-level game (College), I will remove you from the assignment.

Crew Chief/Head Referee – it is your responsibility to contact your crew no later than 72 hours before your scheduled game.

U1 and U2 – it is your responsibility to respond promptly to that communication.

If there are any issues with this process, please contact me directly. I do not wish to get involved in what should be a very simple procedure, but I will step in if necessary.

All technical fouls issued to coaches only must be reported directly to me. The calling official is responsible for sending me a brief description of the incident by text or email after the game.

Remember to keep your calendar on Dragonfly current throughout the season. Close out any dates you are not available to work.

PRE-GAME: Each crew – Each game, there should be a productive and informative pre-game. No matter the personnel in the crew.

If you wanna be a championship referee, you have to have championship habits.
